Referrals are important because school counselors can’t meet every need on their own, and some situations require outside support or specialized services. Using ASCA’s approach, referrals help make sure students get the right level of care while counselors stay within their role and scope of practice. They also show collaboration - working with families and community resources to truly support the whole child.
