What Does Our School Need?

Elementary Needs Assessment

The data collected from this elementary needs assessment would help me better understand how students across different grade levels are feeling about school, safety, relationships, and support in their daily lives. Because the survey is developmentally adapted - with Kindergarten and 1st grade students completing the first version, 2nd and 3rd grade students completing the second version, and 4th and 5th grade students completing the third version - I would be able to gather meaningful feedback in a way that is appropriate for students’ age and level of understanding. By reviewing responses related to school enjoyment, feelings of safety, friendships, teacher support, family care, and effort in school, I could identify patterns and determine areas where additional support may be needed. The open-ended questions would also provide valuable insight into students’ personal experiences and what they believe would make school better for them. Overall, this data would help me create a more intentional, student-centered, and developmentally appropriate school counseling program that supports students’ academic success, social/emotional growth, and sense of belonging.

Secondary Needs Assessment

The data collected from this needs assessment would help me better understand the academic, social/emotional, and career-related needs of my middle school students, while also giving me valuable input from teachers and families. By reviewing student responses related to worries such as focus, grades, friendships, bullying, self-control, anxiety, sadness, and organization, I would be able to identify trends and determine which topics may need to be addressed through classroom lessons, small groups, or individual support. Teacher feedback would help me prioritize school counseling topics such as anger management, conflict resolution, study skills, self-esteem, peer relationships, and school adjustment, while parent responses would provide insight into school climate, academic support, and family perceptions of student needs. Overall, this data would allow me to build a more intentional, equitable, and responsive school counseling program that is shaped by the voices and experiences of the students, staff, and families I serve.
