Program Evaluation
The purpose of program evaluation in a school counseling program is to ensure that services are effective, intentional, and responsive to student needs. Through ongoing evaluation, I can use data to identify what is working, make improvements, and ensure my program supports students’ academic, social/emotional, and career development. It also allows me to demonstrate the impact of my program to stakeholders and maintain accountability.
To evaluate my program, I would use tools aligned with the ASCA National Model, including the ASCA School Counseling Program Assessment and results reports that include process, perception, and outcome data. For example, if I facilitated a small group on organization and study skills, I would track participation (process data), student confidence through pre/post surveys (perception data), and changes in missing assignments or teacher feedback (outcome data). If most students showed improvement in both confidence and academic behaviors, it would indicate the intervention was effective. This ongoing use of data would help me adjust and strengthen my program to better support all students.
